Essentials

  • Passport - very essential - with Visa included 
  • Medium sized rucksack or suitcase - with a photocopy of your passport in 
  • Small rucksack 
  • Money belt or secure purse 

Clothing

  • Long trousers / skirt 
  • Shorts - long ones 
  • T Shorts / Short sleeve shirts 
  • Long sleeved shirt 
  • Thin fleece top 
  • Underwear 
  • Night attire - cotton pyjamas / night dress 
  • Trainers and sandals 

Comfort and Safety

  • Sheet sleeping bag 
  • Camping Mat 
  • Travel Pillow 
  • Toiletries and Towel 
  • Sun hat, sun lotion, cool sunglasses 
  • Mosquito net - self supporting if possible. Some are hanging types but there may be no hook. Those with supporting poles are the best. 
  • Insect Repellent - DEET based 

Additional Items

  • Digital Camera 
  • Note books, pens, pencils or your own use 
  • Reading book (or Kindle if you're posh) 
  • Knife, fork, spoon 
  • Empty water bottles - named 
  • Medical suppliers - malaria tablets (if using), rehydration sachets and immodium (in case of diorrehoa), paracetamol, plasters and any personal requirements. 

Teaching Resources

  • Larger items can be purchased when in India and contribute to the local economy but... you may like to purchase in advance items such as.. 
  • Simple games, cards and toys - small lego kits for example 
  • One or two large colourful reading books 
  • Children's activity books e.g. dot to dot or matching pictures 
  • Colouring pencils, crayons and paints 
  • Children's singing CDs and current dance music (ideal if you have younger siblings who no longer want them) 
  • Children's DVDs to help learning with English
